I have a warrant for your arrest

 Pittsburgh Police Badge

My day just got interesting.  Now I know I haven’t been updating my blog (still need to find another name for it) but what just happened warrants it.

I came home from running errands with a huge box in my hands and a mop that I barely had a hold of.  Upon reaching the top of the stairs, I realized Lee was talking to two gentlemen.  As I approached, I realized they were cops by their prominently displayed badges.  When they recognized my presence, they asked if I was “Warren Katzenstein.”

Much like George, I couldn’t lie and said that I was and then asked “Is there something wrong?”

Which they replied, “Yes, actually, there is.”

Que increased heart beat.

They continued, “we have a warrant for your arrest.”

Que heart attack.

I replied, “oh really?”

Apparently I had left my car unattended in an intersection on January 20th.  I question this as I think I would remember if I did such an act.  In any event, to prevent being taken to jail, I had to write a check for $50 and wait for a court date to be set.

I believe is this is related to my car being towed when it shouldn’t have been.  Pittsburgh has a pretty horrible system where they tow your car and if there is a ticket on it, then you can fight the impound fee.  If there isn’t, then you are SOL.  My car didn’t have a ticket.  My numerous phone calls to City Government found that either I would be mailed a ticket (apparently they come off during the towing process sometimes) or I didn’t have one.  Guess what was my case?  I was never mailed one.  So I thought I didn’t have one.  So I couldn’t fight my car being towed in the middle of one of the coldest nights last winter.  And now I was almost arrested.  I love Pittsburgh but I hate how the city is run.
